Summary
Two lonely people discover that true love doesn’t have to be perfect.
The gentleman makes a wager.
Devlin Drake is out for revenge. Since his brother’s mysterious death, the cruel and devious Miss Bromfield has taken to spouting vicious lies, spreading vile gossip - and he vows to make her pay. How better to punish the lady than to make her his wife? A lifetime of misery is what she deserves. Knowing the lady would never accept him, Devlin devises a plan to get her to the altar - he’ll win her hand in a bet.
In choosing to marry the spiteful lady, Devlin must accept he will never know true love. But his fortunes turn when he’s offered another tempting option.
A surprise announcement.
Miss Juliet Duval, the illegitimate daughter of Baron Bromfield, was taken into the lord’s house after the death of her mother. The baron finds her an embarrassment, and her half-sister’s jealous tirades see Juliet banished to the role of servant. That is until her father makes a foolish wager and needs a daughter to satisfy his debt.
An unsuitable match.
Thrown together in an odd twist of fate, Devlin and Juliet are mismatched in every regard. He is a hulking figure of a man, powerful, commanding. She is dainty and petite, used to obeying her father, and despising of masterful men. Yet both quickly become what the other needs and together must battle against those determined to tear them apart.

Wicked Wager
What a wicked read, I couldn't put it down. After making a wager to marry a woman he blamed for destroying his brother's reputation to make her suffer, Devlin Drake ended up with her bastard sister. Together they unravelled a wicked secret. Brilliant!

Interesting.
The narrator gets carried away, but it doesn't detract from the story.
The Hero we have met before and he now is completing his quest.
The Heroine doesn't have a lot of choices, so makes the best of what she is offered.
It is a good story and believable, sex naturally plays a part, but that is becoming a standard of all books.
I just fast forward, I have never been into voyeurism.
The secondary characters, some are known, some are new.

Audible not allowing low reviews to be seen
For this book I was unable to see the 2 star reviews. Audible appear to be presenting the best case possible. This is dishonest. I am going to give every book I buy 1 until this policy is changed. Of course you may only see the metric not the review itself.
So overall rating is awful. Do not buy without full access to ratings so that a true judgement can be formed based on other audible reviewers.

Really dire
I don't know how I managed to finish this this book, the plot was weak until the last few chapters, relying on the sex scenes to pad it out
I can barely put into words how awful I found the narrator with her harsh voice and so many mispronounced words it made me cringe. So disappointing for an Adele Clee book
