Summary

Join in Viola’s shenanigans in this fun, contemporary cozy series! A Viola Roberts Cozy Mystery Collection Box Set One - Three contains the first three Viola Roberts Cozy Mystery books:

The Corpse in the Cabana

Viola Roberts is headed to a writers’ conference at an exotic Florida resort complete with white sand beaches and swaying palm trees where she plans to lounge in the shade drinking frosty beverages with little umbrellas. And, of course, no sojourn to tropical climes would be complete without her wise-cracking best friend, Cheryl.

When Viola discovers the diva of the author world dead (as a doornail) of unnatural causes, the police detective turns a gimlet eye on Viola’s best friend. Along with help from hunky fellow writer, Lucas Salvatore, Viola is determined to ascertain who killed the corpse in the cabana before she, or Cheryl, wind up in jail. Or worse.

The Stiff in the Study

The sleepy seaside town of Astoria, Oregon is the last place you’d expect to find a dead body. That is until the director of the local museum turns up dead in the study and Viola’s friend, Portia, is accused of the crime.

Viola ignores her looming deadline and bout of writer’s block and sets out with her best friend, Cheryl, to solve the murder. From starting riots at local dive bars to breaking into crime scenes, Viola will stop at nothing to prove Portia innocent even if it means putting herself in the crosshairs of the killer.

The Poison in the Pudding

With a book deadline and Christmas fast approaching, the last thing Viola Roberts has time for is a party. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what she gets roped into by the Mayor of Astoria. Party planning it is. Complete with Christmas puddings.

Everything is humming along just fine when suddenly the guests begin to drop like flies! With both her reputation and her favorite Christmas cookies threatened, Viola has no time to waste. She’s got to find the poisoner before somebody ends up dead.

To write a good book you need a good mystery

I enjoyed this box set of mysteries. I normally listen to a book from one series and then have something different before starting the next book so I don't get the plots confused but this wasn't the case with this book. I listened to all three books straight after each other and what a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. The three books continue on from each other and follows Viola and her friend Cheryl as they become caught up in three murder investigations. The books are very different from each other but just as enjoyable as the last.
The Corpse in the Cabana - I liked this book because it was a nice introduction to the characters and I loved the beach location. There was plenty of suspects to keep you guessing.
Viola and her friend Cheryl are attending a writes convention in a beach resort where the pair hopes to relax on the beach and maybe attend a few talks. The last thing they expected was for Viola to find a dead body in the cabana. The diva had burnt a few bridges in the writing world but would one of there fellow authors turn out to be a killer? When the police start to take a close look at the friends and there relationship with the deceased, Viola turns her hand to solving a mystery instead of writing.
The Stiff in the Study - This was fun and I liked the introduction of some new characters.
Viola suffering from writers block decides to get out of the house for a few hours and visit some friends where she hears all about a man who is surely right for a sexual harassment compliment to be filed against him. Before her friend Portia can do anything about it he is found dead and she becomes the number one suspect. Can Viola and Cheryl find the real killer? Catching a killer is a lot harder than they show on tv.
The Poison in the Pudding - I think this one was my favourite even though it was the shortest book.
The mayor has roped Viola and Cheryl into helping with the Christmas fund raiser, not by being the guest authors but by providing the food for the event. The event starts off well even with the guest romance authors nearly coming to blows, until the guests start to get sick. Was it a case of bad food or something more sinister? Viola made the pudding that caused the guest to get sick, can she prove that she wasn't trying to kill anyone? Especially as one on the guest authors ends up in hospital. The police don't want her help but knowing everybody blames her means once again Viola will stop at nothing to find the killer.
I liked the narrator and thought she did a really good job of bringing the characters to life and gave them each there own unique sounding voice.
