Summary
"It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done...."
With these words and a superb act of bravery and sacrifice, one of the most badly behaved heroes of all time ends Charles Dickens' great tale of the French Revolution.
This is a firework display of a book, a crackling picture of the ravages and excesses of starving, furious men and the astonishing acts of heroism that usually accompany them.

What a saga!
It has taken me fifty years to get round to this book! I started to read it in my twenties, but it defeated me! I love Dickens, but this book was too full of unnecessary sentimental detail, and was very hard to read.
Best character? Undoubtedly mme Defarge, who came to a well deserved end.
Narration was very good, with just the right amount of expression and characterisation...a difficult job!
Oh well, I set out to hear it all, and now I have.....!

A superb reading of a classic story
Beautifully read with clever interpretation that brings the characters to life. Perfectly paced and intoned. I will look for more audiobooks read by Andew Sachs.

Don’t judge a book by its cover
The dull cover illustration suggests a third rate reader, but Andrew Sachs is truly magnificent. Powerful story, great characters and moments of Dickensian humour well executed by Sachs.

A tale of two cities
Andrew Sachs was wonderful. The language is old English and needs all your attention to follow. It’s about extreme love and hate in equal measures. Around the time of the French Revolution. It’s a frightening but wonderful story
