Summary
*The thrilling new novel from Lucy Clarke, THE HIKE, is available to buy now*
The deeper the water, the darker the secrets…
There were so many times I thought about telling you the truth, Eva. What stopped me was always the same thing…
When Eva’s husband Jackson tragically drowns, she longs to meet his estranged family. The journey takes her to Jackson’s brother’s doorstep on a remote Tasmanian island. As strange details about her husband’s past begin to emerge, memories of the man she married start slipping through her fingers like sand, as everything she ever knew and loved about him is thrown into question. Now she’s no longer sure whether it was Jackson she fell in love with – or someone else entirely…
The truth is, it was all a lie . . .

Boring story lasting over 11 hours
The story is dragging forever, it is a summer romance rather than a psychological thriller. The narrator spoils it all, she sound like she is reading this book secretly under a duvet. There are moments when people shout or speak loud and the narrator's voice comes out just like a whisper. I waited for 11 hours for something to finally happen. The storyline is predictable and dialogs never ending.

What would have made A Single Breath better?
In my opinion this book doesn't belong in Crime & Thrillers; it's more Romance with a Bit of Mystery. Doubtless the glowing reviews I read were by lovers of the latter.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Sorry to say I found the female narrator's breathy style increased my irritation at having bought a Romance.
You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I did listen to the end; the pace and structure of the story was satisfying even if the content wasn't.
Any additional comments?
The final reveal was fairly predictable, as was Emily's decision.
