Summary

The third book in Michael Wood’s darkly compelling crime series featuring DCI Matilda Darke. Perfect for fans of Peter James, Lee Child and Karin Slaughter.

Eight killers. One house. And the almost perfect murder…

Starling House is home to some of the nation’s deadliest teenagers, still too young for prison.

When the latest arrival is found brutally murdered, DCI Matilda Darke and her team investigate, and discover a prison manager falling apart and a sabotaged security system. Neither the staff nor the inmates can be trusted.

The only person Matilda believes is innocent is facing prison for the rest of his life. With time running out, she must solve the unsolvable to save a young man from his fate, and find a murderer in a house full of killers…

Love it- very enjoyable

Very good writing, I changed my mind on numerous occasions as to who the murder was. Really enjoyed the book and Matilda seemed to pick up a bit and a lot less maudlin.

Easy Listening Crime

Love the DCI Matilda Dark books, easy to listen and follow the story, and great that they are set in Sheffield area. I always wonder what Sian has in her snack drawer. I always end one book and can't wait to start the next one.

Intriguing storyline.

After taking a chance on ‘The Seventh Victim’ and thoroughly enjoying it, I latched on to the Matilda Darke series. So far, all three books have had intriguing and masterful plots and denouements. However, I know that the following comments are going to be a waste of time because this is book 3 of 10, but the time has come to lay James to rest. I’m nine years on from my husband’s sudden death and I have never sat and tortured myself with wedding photos on a daily basis, nor will I. Grief is a very individual experience with its own triggers that are best avoided so please allow Matilda to move on. Michael also needs to do a bit more research about Venlafaxine and antidepressants in general. You simply cannot randomly take 3 pills when you feel low. I’ve also heard and received the messages about Hillsborough and Rotherham so enough of that as well thanks. Despite these minor niggles, I love the series, the characters and the ingenious stories that are fresh, original and don’t conform to the genre. On to book 4 then.

Good story, not as good as previous!

This one fell a bit flat but was still enjoyable. The mouth sounds I have read about unfortunately were quite obvious in this reading, but didn’t distract me too much. Great narration and some likeable characters.

love this series

Working my way through this series of books and enjoying everyone.
It may just be me but the narrator sounds like shes too close to the microphone. I can hear every breath and each time she swallows. Im new to audio books so may just be me. I have never noticed that in any other book. Love how she tells the story though.
