wonderful Story, awful narrator
I absolutely love these stories, but the narrator of this 2nd book completely ruined it.

Amazing story
I didn’t realise this was a continuation of a previous book about the Brogan family but I was pleasantly surprised.
The story about other members of the brogan family left me shocked, tearful and enthralled. I was totally gripped by all the twists and turns and was emotional at others.

Awful amateurish voices on a great story
Sadly I had to keep abandoning this as there was only so much of this narrators dialogue I could take. Instead of varying the way someone talks, using speed, tone, pace, another more subtle realistic ways of portraying a cockney accent, we were subjected to shrieking, shrill, parody accents.
Such a shame. I do hope they stop using the school or give her some lessons in how to pronounce words better. Also awful emphasis within a sentence, changing the meaning, from time to time. But Jean Fullerton is always excellent. I highly recommend call nurse Millie series.

Enjoyable listen
Normally I don't opt for stories based around the war era but choose this book after searching for Christmas titles. The storyline was great and although there were a few predictable chapters, the book is definitely worth a read/listen and has a good narrator. I will definitely look into more books from this author.

Poor narration
Book 1 was really great. Narration bringing the characters to life, but book 2, I struggled through. The narration didn’t give the characters dimension , I found it hard to listen to. I’ve only persevered as I’ve seen the next books are narrated by Annie aldington, who brilliant at bringing characters to life. I hopefully will enjoy the creative the series.

Ear plugs needed!!
A good story spoilt by a terrible narrator. So much shouting paracetamol were needed. Never listened to a story before that left my head pounding. I should have taken note of other reviews as a warning was there. Very disappointed.

The narrator ruined it
Unfortunately I found listening to this book was an ordeal, due to the narrator.
I persevered because I wanted to listen to the series in order, but I was glad to finish it.
The narrator was reading the book as if she was in an amateur school play. She overacted, used a mix of bad accents and even worse voices, and had a habit of screeching and yelling dialogue which was painful to listen to.
In addition, because of her schoolgirl-type narration, the bad language in the book gained an emphasis which I didn’t notice in the last book. It sounded gratuitous rather than convincing.
Possibly because of the grating narration, I did not enjoy the storyline as much in this book. The writing appeared to be mundane and not inspired.
I am relieved to learn that the next book in the series is read by the great Annie Aldington, who can bring any book to life.
