Summary

Gosport, 1941. Fourteen-year-old Vera has led a sheltered life with her overbearing mother. But her world is turned upside down with the arrival of the Lovell family. Vera quickly befriends the daughter, Angela, who opens Vera's eyes to what she has been missing. But Vera invites the unwanted attention of Angela's father, with devastating consequences.

Outraged at the news that her teenage daughter is pregnant, Vera's mother sends her to a home for wayward girls. After giving birth, Vera manages to escape, only to end up homeless. Alone and struggling to make ends meet, Vera is determined to give her son a better life. But just as their fortunes seem to change for the better, everything Vera has worked for is threatened.

If Annie Aldington narrates it, buy it!

What did you like most about A Mother's Journey?

I was desperate to hear how Vera had gone on (with her health problem) without revealing any thing to prospective readers. To find this book and hear about her past put another piece in the jigsaw about Vera and Daisy Lane, it was narrated by Annie Aldington who is the "queen" of Gosport and London. Just a word to the author (June) you introduced Berts Café in a different way (i.e. relationship with Vera) which differs from the Daisy Lane books?

I would really welcome a final Daisy Lane book and search for it often as I need closure and another chance to hear Annie Aldington to put this series to bed for me.

Please write it June!

And thank you

What other book might you compare A Mother's Journey to, and why?

None

Which character – as performed by Annie Aldington – was your favourite?

Vera and Daisy Lane, Annie is an amazing narrator look at my purchase history!

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

From Gosport via London to Gosport!

Any additional comments?

Any book narrated by Annie Aldington is good, not good but great, memorable, but in addition June Hampson's series is very believable and anyone in their middle age can identify with them. I tend to search Audible by narrators rather then authors, but listening to the full set (by Annie Aldington) made me identify with Vera and Daisy and I had sleepless nights and lots of tears hoping for the best outcomes in what I know is a very hard world. Phew what else can I say, I could talk about your audio books for hours. Thanks and am so glad you provide this service.

A Mother's Journey

Loved it, I have now listened to all of the audio book by June. Annie is a fantastic narrator. Favourite character is Vera.

I was wondering all throughout this book if it was the same Vera from the first five books with Daisy.

Great plot and had me giggling and in tears. My favourite part was the dancing, ok the whole book was brilliant but I cannot spoil the story for you.

A definite hit and worthwhile listening too.
