About this listen
Cold-blooded murder has transformed Simon Puttock's official obligation into something horrid, and he will need the able assistance of his friend, Sir Baldwin Furnshill, to draw a criminal out. A former Knight Templar, Sir Baldwin knows much of duty and servitude and of evil freely indulged in the name of godliness or greed. Now, justice must be served, even if their search exposes extortion, foul corruption, rule by fear, and killers willing, even eager, to shed more blood.

Entertaining......
A good story told at a good pace. Not one of the best from the series and could have been a little more 'atmospheric'. But Jecks researches his subject matter well and his characters are believable and real. Maybe more realism if good does not always win over bad as was more often the case in times past (and even today) but then I guess there would be no 'satisfactory' conclusion.

Although it sounds odd a greater understanding of the class system of the time with the accents and speech patterns of the characters
If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
While the country recovers from war and famine two men still look out for those who are murdered

Good but long winded
I feel a bit at odds with the other reviews. This is a good book and evokes a real sense of the period of history when Lords of the manor, villeins and serfs, bailiffs and knights roamed the English countryside. The history of the rights of the tin miners and Cornish Stannery Parliament was very good and the narration was excellent. My only reservation was that it was long winded and could have been shorter. There was a lot of revisiting of previous evidence and recycling of previous conversations before the conclusion but for all that it was a good read and I will try the next one in the series.
