Summary

This is the remarkable story of one endearing dog's search for his purpose over the course of several lives. More than just another charming dog story, A Dog's Purpose touches on the universal quest for an answer to life's most basic question: why are we here?

Surprised to find himself reborn as a rambunctious golden-haired puppy after a tragically short life as a stray mutt, Bailey's search for his new life's meaning leads him into the loving arms of eight-year-old Ethan. During their countless adventures, Bailey joyously discovers how to be a good dog. But this life as a family pet is not the end of Bailey's journey. Reborn as a puppy yet again, Bailey wonders - will he ever find his purpose?

Heartwarming, insightful, and often laugh-out-loud funny, A Dog's Purpose is not only the emotional and hilarious story of a dog's many lives but also a dog's-eye commentary on human relationships and the unbreakable bonds between man and man's best friend. This moving and beautifully crafted story teaches us that love never dies and that every creature on earth is born with a purpose.

Better than the movie.

I loved the film, never realised it was actually a book first! Book goes more deeper than the movie did. If anything the ending is far better than the movie, but a LOT more sadder :-(

The audio book is well narrated. Parts had me smiling and also laughing out loud, equally offset by sadness.

If you enjoyed the film definitely would recommend this book.

A very touching story about the love of a dog

Is it it convoluted? You betcha. Is it corny? Indubitably. Is it sincere? Most definitely. A story for anyone lucky to have been loved by a dog.

Amazing

This book gave me another insight and understanding, how dogs possibly view us and the world around. Even though it is just a fiction book, it has some truth. I laughed and cried and truly enjoyed Bailey’s / Ellie’s / Buddy’s story.

Spellbinding!

I have never, ever, either read a paper book or listened to an audio book that has had me laughing out loud one moment and sobbing the next and I'm NOT exaggerating about the sobbing!

This has just been such a wonderful experience. I was a former dog owner so a lot of it was particularly poignant for me, but even someone who has never had a dog of their own would recognise characteristics of this wonderful little pooch.

The narration is without doubt the best I have ever listened to. How William Dufris catches the exuberating nature of a puppy's responses and reactions, to the pathos of a grown dog who loves and is loved in return is absolutely delightful.

I thoroughly recommend this book - I didn't want it to end.
