The perfect festive tale to get you feeling warm
I have always loved this story.
So simple and heartfelt in it's telling and in this version is also so well performed by Simon Prebble.
The memories of all the film versions were floating through my head as I listened to this and although I wanted this version to be independent of all of those I only feel it was enhanced by actors of the past running through the scenes and putting their stamp on Ebenezer Scrooge's character.
I highly recommend reminding yourself of a decent way of life by listening to Charles Dickens' original and unabridged telling of A Christmas Carol.

A Festive Masterpiece
One of the grand Victorian storyteller's finest.
Most memorable moment: Ebenezer Scrooge accusing Jacob Marley's spirit of being a hallucination brought on by an undigested bit of beef or raw potato. "There is more of the gravy than the grave about you, whatever you are!"
From majestic composition to impossibly unique character naming, this powerfully festive novella can be read and re-read every Christmas!

Wonderful reading
I have listened to many versions of a Christmas Carol as it is one of Dickens finest works. This was an especially good reading, exceptional and I thoroughly enjoyed this classic that I intend to listen to it several times more before Christmas. Highly recommend.

A Surprisingly Interesting Classic
I was surprised that I genuinely found it really interesting and more entertaining than any film adaptation. Scrooge seems to learn a lot more from the Spirits in the book. You get more of a sense that he knows he is in the wrong with how he feels, and he regrets how he treats people. For example, straightaway when the Ghost of Christmas Past takes him to his school he remembers the young boy on his doorstep singing carols and says, “I wish I had given him something” It’s far more in-depth than any of the films. If you struggle to read Dickens, I would really suggest listening to it on audio. I listened to the version narrated by Simon Prebble, and he speaks very clearly and is very entertaining. His diction is good especially for me as I’m hard of hearing. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book.
Synopsis
Bitter and miserly, Ebenezer Scrooge sees Christmas as any other day. After a particularly long day of being miserable, Scrooge’s long past business partner, Jacob Marley, brings him a warning. Change your ways or forever be chained. Through the night, he is visited by three more spirits of Christmas Past, Christmas Present and Christmas Yet to Come. Together they try to save Scrooge from his miserable eternity.

Irresistible listening at this time of year.
Pop the tree lights on, make a hot chocolate and get cosy on the couch. Then enjoy this classic.

Tradition
This is my favourite Christmas story. I have a tradition that on Christmas Eve I watch the film but now that I've got the talking book it's even better.
