지금 엘렌이 가지고 있는 계획? 최대한 웅크리고 지내기, 남의 눈에 띄지 않기. 한편으로는 새 일자리인 공원 녹지과 일을 제대로 배우면서, 재사회화위원회의 권고에 따라 탐정 코스도 이수하고, 아무튼 과거에 머물지만은 않기로 결심을 했다. 그런데 이게 생각보다는 어려운 일이었다. 예전에 엘렌과 모종의 관계를 가졌던 이들이 다시 눈앞에 나타나고 급기야는 협박편지까지 날아온다. 익명의 편지를 보낸 이가 누군지는 모르겠지만, 자기는 옛일을 용서는 커녕 잊지도 않겠다는 사람이다. 경찰에는 신고했지만 경찰이 엘렌의 신고를 진지하게 받아들여주는 것 같진 않다. 갑자기, 탐정 코스에서 배우는 내용이 엘렌 자신의 생존을 위해 필요해지는데...
