「無頼派」「新戯作派」の破滅型作家を代表する昭和初期の小説家、太宰治による随筆。初出は「文学通信」［1935（昭和10）年］。第一回芥川賞の選評における川端康成の「道化の華」評に対して、太宰が抗議を寄せたものであるが、川端への直接批判と言うよりは、川端に批判せしめた背後の力を批判したようである。のちに川端はこの文章に対して、「妄想や邪推はせぬがよい」と戒めている。
