You can’t have a good tale of monster hunting without monsters. And sometimes the monsters don’t need to be hunted. Sometimes it’s fun sitting back at minimum safe distance and watching the mayhem.

Injustamente ignorado en vida, fue después de su muerte cuando el empuje de algunos amigos y colegas, empeñados en difundir su obra a cualquier precio, consiguió que se le prestara a su narrativa la atención que merecía. Hoy en día, Lovecraft ocupa un lugar preeminente en la literatura norteamericana, siendo uno de los escritores de horror y ciencia ficción más influyentes del siglo XX.

Un hombre se va a vivir a la casa que ha heredado de su primo, fallecido apenas un mes antes de forma repentina. Al instalarse se da cuenta de que su primo pasaba prácticamente todo su tiempo en una extraña buhardilla de la casa, que tenía una ventana redonda de cristal opaco. Poco a poco empieza a escuchar ruidos misteriosos a los que no consigue encontrar explicación y a sentir una presencia que le observa, por lo que se decide a investigar en profundidad la buhardilla y qué era lo que su primo hacía en ella, allí descubre cosas insólitas y aterradoras.

Escrito en 1927, es considerado uno de los mejores cuentos de horror de todos los tiempos. La historia es contada en primera persona por un ingeniero encargado de hacer un estudio para edificar un embalse en un remoto paraje llamado Arkham. Allí encuentra un área de terreno denominada "landa maldita" que es distinta a todas y que le causa extrañas y poco agradables sensaciones. Un anciano vecino del lugar le explica que el motivo del estado de esa parcela es que un meteorito se estrelló cerca de una granja liberando un ser extraño que se escondió en el fondo del pozo.

"Crooken Sands" is a short story by Bram Stoker. It was first published in the UK in the December 1, 1894 issue of Holly Leaves the Christmas Number of The Illustrated Sporting and Dramatic News, London. Mr Arthur Fernlee Markam, who took what was known as the Red House above the Mains of Crooken, was a London merchant, and being essentially a cockney, thought it necessary when he went for the summer holidays to Scotland to provide an entire rig-out as a Highland chieftain, as manifested in chromolithographs and on the music-hall stage.

"A Gipsy Prophecy" is a short story by Bram Stoker. It was first published in the December 26, 1885 issue of the Saturday newspaper The Spirit of the Times, New York. Due to the Christmas holiday this issue was released on Wednesday December 23, 1885 as "The Christmas Spirit." It was a lovely evening in the summer; the very air was full of rest and quiet happiness, as though an outward type of the peacefulness and joy which made a heaven of the home of the young married folk.
