“Punishment by Hope is a wildly poetic and surreal odyssey through sexual obsession, murder, and retribution, set in a bioluminescent Dantesque world of fiery and aquatic horrors.” (Barbie Wilde, author The Venus Complex, Voices of the Damned and actress Hellbound: Hellraiser II)
“A dreamlike seascape of desperate wishes, and a nightmarish vision of love’s life and death, this is a powerful, haunting tale.” (Tim Lebbon, author of Eden)
“Punishment by Hope is a vivid and erotic fantasy mystery. Hofstatter weaves a memorable spell.” (James Bennett, author of Chasing Embers)

A set of dark tales which feel fresh and timeless
This really felt quite a find!
As I listened to this book, I was mesmerised. Each tale is original, and yet each dark tale makes me think I've fallen across a rediscovered Greek myth. In each tale there is a thread of hope, of breaking cycles, and yet the sense of foreboding is always there, and in the wings you can feel the presence of unseen and unnamed gods who are both cruel and vengeful, and they're laughing at the folly of mortals.
I would recommend this book to anyone who craves the sort of mythical tale where the hero follows a path which will always and forever lead to their doom. There is no Disney endings to be found here.
The tales are beautifully writen and spoken, and feel poetic, lyrical and passionate.
